Forrest - Family Reunion Photographer, Park City, Utah

I am so excited to share this slideshow of a family reunion I was able to document this summer. Basically, I got to tag along with the awesome  Forrest family for their entire reunion. It was awesome. :) I was there at 8am for pancakes, went with them on all their adventures, and partied until the sun went down. When I get to spend this much time with a family I start to feel like I am just a part of the family. And they definitely made me feel that way. I love being there for all the best moments, that you don't normally get to have photographs of, like the kids wresting on the couch, cooking dinner together, and all the snuggles. Oh, how I love me some good snuggles.....

Papillon Pots by Tari

All my life I have avoided pottery classes. I don't hate pottery but I hate the chalky feeling of dry clay that is left on your hands after you are finished…. It's like nails on a chalk board! But I did finally take a class a year ago and fell in love. It is, in my opinion, one of the most meditative art forms one can do (besides printing photos in a darkroom). I could get lost for hours in the process of working with clay.
And I discovered that it is equally as enjoyable to photograph that process as photographed Tari in her studio. Tari not only has her own line of pottery that she sells, but she also teaches! Watching and photographing Tari teach was a surreal experience for me. A flood of memories of my aunt LeOma, who passed away a few years ago, came flooding back to my mind. Memories of  doing arts and crafts with her and her caring and motherly nature. Why am I talking about my aunt while I share these photos of Tari...? Because Tari has that same energy and even though Tari is LeOma's niece (my cousin) the family resemblance was so apparent as I witnessed her teaching the craft to someone else the same way my Aunt LeOma taught me. She carried that same care, gentleness and joy in her face as my dear aunt.

You can see some ofTari's work at her website Papillon Pots

Madison Senior Portraits

This is what I call a last ditch effort. Madison and I picked a super busy night out of an even busier week for both of us to do her senior photos. We were running late and honestly didn't have a location picked out. All she requested were fall colors in the background.

The plan: drive up east canyon and start shooting as much as we could before we lost valuable sunlight. I would say our last ditch effort worked out pretty well.  I sure love the adventure of discovering a hidden location that is "off the beaten path" of where people usually request photos. And you would never guess she had just told me here hair wasn't working the way she wanted , because I think it's pretty amazing, and those eyes….

I sure love this girl! And I'm so proud of her, in an "other mother" sort of way. She is smart, funny and oh so talented; DECA president, makes me snort-laugh, and makes me want to be an artist like her some day…

and one last one for me….

Rediscovered film from Alaska

I love resdiscovering old film! It's like Christmas, or like reliving the day you got said film the first time in the mail that felt like Christmas.
I know these aren't particularly noteworthy but they are from when I went to Alaska. and look how young Syd is. And I love when my holga camera gives me these unexpected results that are nothing I ever tried to achieve, but I love them anyway. (see bottom photo)

Run for Congo Women 2012

I feel a tiny bit bloggy right now...

Back in October (last year... yeah, LAST YEAR!) I was so privileged to photograph at Run for Congo Women 2012.  I've participated in events and volunteered in the past for Utah for Congo but this time I was able to just watch, observe, and document everything. It was pretty amazing and I feel very lucky I got to be a part of it. I'm so grateful to Lindsay Park and Missy Lambert for "roping" me into this. :) hehe I've learned so much about the conflict in the Congo and the cause these women fight for.

If you would like to learn more read this book, Half the Sky. It really opened my eyes!
You can learn more about Utah for Congo by visiting the blog or by joining the Utah for Congo facebook page

Here are just a few of my favorite photos. See more on their blog and facebook page. :)

Mekayla (senior photos)

Sometimes I write a post and then forget to post it....
Whelp here is another on!

Ah Mekayla, my favorite niece! (I call all of my nieces my favorite niece, except maggie because she calls me the witch. But we all know betsy is my favorite, because she is the baby... hahhaha! jk)

Mekayla has left my life living it up at one of my favorite places (in Utah), Logan City. And I couldn't be happier and so excited for her! She makes me feel so young when we hang out but her going to collage makes me realize how OLD I am.  But I am really loving that we call each other and complain about school and homework. :)
Love this girl!

Portfolio

I am going to unabashedly brag, not because I think I am especially worthy of bragging or anything, but because I have been working my tush off for the last two weeks on grad school applications. And I'm a tiny bit proud of myself.

A part of the applications is an art portfolio. I decided this would be a good time to share some recent photos mingled with some of my art from recent art classes, and old photos from my photo program at the University of Utah, in the form of my portfolio.
(I mostly want to show off my recent photos but yer gettin' it all!)

I am in serious need of some TLC. I'm thinking sleep and.... I can't think of anything else... hahahah!
what does one do to relax these days? I'm taking suggestions.

So without further ado, I present my portfolio:

Jaden

Have I mentioned how much I love wind blown hair....? And I really love this photo of Jaden.
Jaden is a true tomboy and incredibly shy, so to capture her in a moment like this is magic. :)

Robert and Shana Parke Harrison

I'm not a huge fan of conceptual art... sometimes it feels so trendy and cliche. But I LOVE these two artists work. It just grabs my heart and pulls me into their dream world. And I am in love. Here is their website http://www.parkeharrison.com/. They are also featured on this website http://framednetwork.com/man-and-nature-robert-shana-parkeharrison/.

Don't hate. I had to post a couple of my favorites so I could show you all their awsomeness, in case you don't click on the links.

Film and some photos

So this post is all about some photo geekery. Apologies if it leads anyone to boredom....

So these photos I've posted once before but wanted to share it next to another shot of the same thing, same light. Most of the time I will shoot with my digital camera, but I like to try to get a few shots with my film camera as well (just for my own nerdy personal reasons). I don't always show both because I wait so long to get my film developed. But I am going through some old negs and am going to show a few.

My heart will always belong to film. Hopefully you can see why in these photos... I think film has truer colors and richer tones. And maybe nobody else would notice but I do and that is all that matters... hahaha

In the soup photos the colors in the film photo are truer. Notice the green of the kale. Way more appetizing!

Film

In these engagement photos the sky and the mountains in the distance get lost in the digital photo. The film is able to still pick them up even with how harsh the sun was that day.
